What is the MPPRE Travel Document?
The Travel Document is issued by Venezuela's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MPPRE) and allows Venezuelan citizens abroad to return to the country when they don't have a valid passport or can't easily renew it.
The process is handled through the official MPPRE portal: documentodeviaje.mppre.gob.ve
Processing time varies, but on average it takes between 2 and 6 weeks depending on the case and current demand.

The 4 situations: which one is yours?
Case 1: Valid Venezuelan passport Easiest
If your Venezuelan passport is valid (not expired), you have the most direct path. You can fly to Venezuela directly with that document.

An expired passport is one of the most common cases. There are routes that allow returning to Venezuela with an expired passport under certain conditions.
Options:
- Passport renewal: If you can renew it at the nearest Venezuelan consulate, that's the ideal option. Wait times vary a lot by consulate.
- MPPRE Travel Document: If you can't renew your passport, the Travel Document is the main alternative. It allows returning to Venezuela without a valid passport.
- Some airlines accept expired passports: Depending on the route and airline, there may be options. We check case by case.
Case 3: Venezuelan ID only (no passport) Requires processing

No. Venezuelan citizens do not need a visa to enter Venezuela. You only need a valid Venezuelan ID document (passport or MPPRE Travel Document).
